The client’s priority with this large single plot site was to be able to build within a high flood risk area, without detracting from the aesthetic of the Hauf-Haus they intended to build.
The void on this system was designed and built to be 1.2m high, to enable the house to sit high above any potential flood risk from the nearby river Thames.
The void was created by using a Formwork Support system. As well as having to design for the flood risk, restricted access to the site posed a challenge for material deliveries, and mobilisation of the rig to site.
A fast-paced programme was in place for the project to run in line with the delivery of the Hauf-Haus frame, meaning the piling and slab crew had to meet the deadlines in place. The slab was finished with a high spec fair faced Finish due to it being on show beneath and around the outside of the structure.
